The tiniest patients at Kingwood Medical Center are cared for in our Level II and III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), which provide highly specialized care in comforting surroundings. Our Neonatologist works with Neonatal Nurse Practitioners who are staffed on the unit 24/7 along with other specially-trained staff to monitor and care for each of the baby in the unit.
Our NICU is specially designed to support and facilitate the optimal development of its tiny patients. The family-centered unit encourages skin-to-skin contact between baby and parent through “Kangaroo Care,” and breastfeeding also is strongly encouraged.
From the courageous spirits of our littlest NICU babies to the compassionate hearts of our healthcare workers, our NICU is about commitment to life. Until the babies in our NICU are strong and healthy enough to go home to their families, they are part of ours.
