Women & Children Education & Support Services

Kingwood Medical Center offers a variety of education and support programs related to childbirth and newborn care, including:

  • Breastfeeding support
  • Childbirth preparation classes
  • Infant Safety and CPR class
  • Newborn care class
  • Grandparents class
  • Sibling class and tour (ages 3 to 10)

Breastfeeding Support

Introduction to Breastfeeding for Expectant Mothers

This class is offered for expectant mothers and should be taken in the second trimester of pregnancy. Topics in this class include: Breast anatomy and hormones, Latch-on and positioning, Potential Challenges, Pumping and storing breast milk, and returning to work.

Offered twice monthly

Cost: $10.00 per mother (we encourage mothers to bring a support person at no additional fee)

Breastfeeding Support Group

This is a support group led by a Kingwood Medical Center Lactation specialist to support postpartum patients who are breastfeeding. We encourage new breastfeeding moms to come with their babies and questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Women & Children’s Center South Tower ClassroomMeets Mondays* at 9:30am (babies 12 weeks and under)

Meets Mondays* from 10:30am – 12:00pm (babies 12 weeks - 1 year)

Meets 3rd Wednesday* of each month from 5:00pm - 6:30pm

Meets 1st Saturday* of each month from 10:00am - 11:30am

*Except Holidays

Childbirth Preparation

This class is offered for expectant parents and should be taken early in the last trimester of pregnancy. The class is taught by our Childbirth Educators and topics in the class include: Terminology, the process of labor, medical interventions and options, relaxation techniques, and a hospital tour. (Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.)

Offered twice monthly

Saturdays from 9:00am - 4:30pm

Cost: $50 per couple  (includes lunch) *

OR

Two-part series weekday evenings from 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Cost: $50 per couple (includes snacks/drinks) *

* $70 if NOT delivering at Kingwood Medical Center

Grandparents Class

This class is a two and a half hour seminar for grandparents, covering the most-up-to-date facts about changes in prenatal care and the labor and delivery process, cord care, diapering, the benefits of breastfeeding, changes in formula preparation and feeding, infant safety, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and improvements in cribs, play pens, high chairs, and car seats. A tour of the Women & Children's Center is included.

Offered every other month on Thursday evenings

Cost: $15.00 per person.

Infant Safety and CPR

This class is offered for new parents, parents- to- be, or grandparents to learn the latest information of infant safety. Topics covered in the class include: Car seat safety, SIDS, Childproofing your home, and CPR for friends and family. This class is taught by an American Heart Association certified CPR instructor.

Offered twice monthly on weekday evenings

Cost: $15.00 per person.

Newborn Care

This class is offered for new parents or parents- to- be to learn the latest information about newborn care. Topics covered in the class include: Infant Development, Sleeping, Bathing, Diapering, and many more topics.

Offered once monthly on weekday evenings

Cost: $15.00 per person.

Sibling Class

This class is offered for soon to be siblings between the ages of 3 and 10. The class topics include: Caring for a newborn, holding an infant, newborn characteristics, and a tour of the Women’s Center.
