Kingwood Medical Center’s Neuroscience Program is a recipient of the American Stroke Association's Gold Plus and Target Honor Roll Elite and is stroke accredited by the DNV GL Healthcare USA, Inc.and designated as the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in northeast Houston.
Following neurosurgery and neuro-endovascular procedures, patients begin the recovery process under the supervision of a neuro critical-care team who manages pre-existing conditions, postoperative developments and provides guidance to other specialists and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The recovery phase is critical. With a goal of optimizing organ functioning, the neuro critical-care team helps patients recover more quickly and spend less time in the hospital.
For patients who’ve had a stroke, brain tumor or other neurological event, recovery usually means more than the treatment of the underlying condition. Their brains may need time and help to relearn basic tasks, like speech or movement.
Kingwood Medical Center offers a comprehensive neuro and stroke rehabilitation program, including speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and other neuro-rehabilitation to aid in recovery.
The hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation program is under the direction of board certified neurologist ensuring that a stroke specialist is intimately involved with patient care from the time they arrive in the Emergency Department until they return home.
